JONATHAN McCOLL

Jonathan McColl is a Trustee of Dingwall Museum and a member of the Dingwall History Society and Highland Family History Society. He writes and talks about the people and places of the Dingwall area in formal lectures or in guided walks around the burgh. He may be seen about in bookshops or the museum and his height and cowboy hat help recognition.
He has taken Dingwallians and visitors on walks around the streets of central Dingwall to show off the hidden and sometimes not-so-hidden clues to the 1200-year history of the settlement from the Picts, through the Vikings, the Earls of Ross and Reformation up to the 18th, 19th and 20th-century wars and the peaceful times between when the churches were full, incomers from this countries came, settled and were absorbed and local gadgies went out to explore the other corners of the planet.
This year wearing another hat as a board member of the Dingwall Community Development Company he helped in the design and implementation of a new Heritage Trail of notice boards intended for walks around places of interest in Dingwall.
Jonathan is offering four of his DingWalks in Word on the Street 2023.
All walks are on the flat, not strenuous, and take about an hour.
